Day 1: Juba - arrival

Arrival in Juba. Introduction to South Sudan and visit the market area and old Juba town. In the afternoon we will visit John Garang’s monument, considered the founder of the nation.

Day 2: Juba - Kapoeta (by flight) - Toposa Tribe

Breakfast. Early morning flight to Kapoeta, capital of the far Southeast corner of South Sudan. 1h flight. Visit Kapoeta daily market, meet first Toposa tribal people. After lunch at Mango Camp, we will drive to a traditional Toposa community out of Kapoeta. Drive to a remote Toposa region to meet the people in their ‘boma’ –fenced village-.

Reach the tribe and meet the elders and local chief. Welcome ceremony and tour around the village. In remote areas, Toposa women still dress skin beaded skirts of great beauty and scarify their faces and bodies. After the visit to several Toposa villages, we will return back to Kapoeta for the night.

Day 3: Kapoeta - Larim Tribe (3h)

Breakfast. Drive out Didinga territory and reach Camp 15, a market place where Didinga and Larim tribes meet every day to commerce and gossip. Meet local authorities and drive to Boya Hills, a special area for plant lovers (many rare species). Larim people number a few thousand individuals living on the foot of Boya Hills.

Larim scarify their bodies and faces, pierce nose, ears and lips and smoke nicely carved wood and metal pipes. It is a rich culture and its symbol are the unique houses built in wood and adobe, and decorated with snail shells and drawings.

Day 4: Larim Tribe - Didinga Tribe - Kapoeta (3h)

Breakfast and farewell from Boya Hills secluded paradise. Drive to Didinga Mountains. Stop in Camp15 market town. Meet local authorities and from there drive through small path to remote Didinga village. Reach the place in the middle of forested mountains. This is ‘last Africa’.  Meet Didinga elders and learn about their culture and corporal paintings techniques.

Their culture has been influenced by neighboring Toposa but Didinga have a unique tradition in South Sudan, that of face and body painting. After the visit, we will drive to Kapoeta.

Day 5: Kapoeta - Juba (by flight) - departure

Breakfast and transfer to the nearby airstrip. Domestic flight to Juba. Arrival in Juba and transfer to the hotel. Transfer to the airport at the appointed time for your international flight departure.
