Arrival in the morning, meet and greet with the guide and start the city tour. Djibouti was a French Colony, which gained the independence in 1977. Lunch at the restaurant. Dinner and overnight stay.
In the morning we leave for Abbè Lake, the natural border with Etiopia where you will admire some beautiful volcanic chimneys still active. In this area that looks like the Rift valley, it’s easy to meet nomads (Afar) or wild animals such as flamingoes, gazelles and ostriches.
Pic nic lunch. Overnight at the basic and simple “campement”, a sort of local wild camp on the shore of the lake. For this overnight we have to bring our own sleeping bags. Sharing facilities.
In the morning, after having watched the flamingoes “having breakfast” on the lake, we leave Abbè Lake and reach the road of the Tadjoura gulf. During this trip you will have the opportunity to enjoy an astonishing landscape characterized by: houses of the local population, the Afar, flat land with volcanic flows, colorful stones and the spectacular Goubet Bay and the Devil Island.
We then reach the Assal Lake, the lowest point of the whole Africa (-155 meters). In the blue salted lake the Afar are used pick up the salt still with traditional techniques. Overnight at the basic and simple “campement”, a sort of local wild camp not too far from the lake. Some “rooms” will be available but will be shared by 2, 3 or 4 people. Sharing facilities and situated outside the rooms. Please note this is a very basic accommodation but it’s the only one available.
In the morning we leave for the Goubet Gulf, a volcanic land of 7km situated between the Assal lake and the sea. Here we are exactly on the split of the earth crust, the natural border between Africa and Asia. After a nice walk on the shore of the lake we drive towards the Day Forest on the Goda Mountain. After a nice walk into the forest, we move to the coast. While travelling we will enjoy a beautiful view on the landscape of the Tadjoura Gulf. Once arrived in Tadjoura, early in the afternoon, we will reach the well-known seaside ‘le Sable Blanc’, not far from the city centre. We will overnight on simply but comfortable bungalows, situated on the seaside. Each bungalow has two air-conditioned rooms and bathroom to be shared (toilet and shower in each bungalow) Dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast we travel northwards to Obock. During the jorney we will enjoy an amazing view on the white sanded beaches and the deep blue water of the Gulf. Once in Obock, we will visit the harbor city. Then we travel back to the hotel. Lunch and afternoon at leisure, to relax at the seaside.
