In this 3 days trip we visit the Northern part of the desert near the Egyptian border, take the opportunity to visit this incredible area with its cultural heritage and landscapes and spend two nights in our special Experential Preset Camp.

Day 1: Khartoum – Tombos (570 km)

Long day on the tar road to reach Dongola city, cross the Nile on the bridge and arrive in the small village of Tombos. Walk to see the sleeping Pharaohs in the middle of the ancient granite quarry. In the area there is also a big Stelae dated back to Thutmose I. After the visit we arrive in our experiential camp located in the desert. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Tombos – Sebu- 3rd Cateract - Soleb – Kerma - Tombos

Today we drive on the eastern side and we visit the Third Cataract which used to be the third huge obstacle that the ancients Egyptians had to face when trying to sail on the Nile River. We walk up the hill to the ancient Ottoman Fort where we can have beautiful views of the cataract. In Sebu, right on the riverbank of the Nile it is possible to visit one of the richest sites of rock engraving of all Sudan with hundreds of images from prehistoric to Egyptian times To visit the amazing Temple of Soleb, the most beautiful Egyptian temple of all Sudan, we will cross the Nile again with a small boat and walk to the Temple. Here there are the remains of the “jubilee Temple” of Amenhotep III of the New Kingdom in Nubia, with many walls rich in hieroglyphic inscriptions, bas-relief figures and many columns. Picnic lunch is included today. Before returning to the preset camp we will visit Kerma and the majestic “Defuffa” the monument that characterizes Kerma civilization and the small Museum. Dinner and overnight at the preset camp located amongst boulders and sand.

Day 3: Tombos – Old Dongola - Khartoum

After breakfast, very early, start driving south on the tar road to Ed Debba, where we cross the river to visit briefly the ruins of the Old Christian Kingdom of Makuria: Old Dongola. We then start driving back to Khartoum on the long road across the Western desert.
